River Taw Farms grass fed cattle farm is located on the border of Cleveland and Gaston Counties, nestled in the rolling piedmont of the southwestern portion of North Carolina and situated in the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. We have over 1,500 acres of pasture, trees and natural water.
Our vision is to build one of the finest herds of grass fed Black Angus cattle in the Carolinas and breed them in a holistic natural environment. We are working on fencing and clean water to create effective rotational grazing. Much of the natural water is already fenced off and we hope to eventually be fully independent with solar driven wells. We have a closed herd of 300 young cows and will have our first grassfed offspring for sale toward the end of 2010.
We have sourced the majority of our registered cattle from Yon Family Farms in Ridge Spring, SC and Primus Genetics in Millers Creek, NC.
Our name is inspired by a river and its surrounding moorlands in Devon, England. The River Taw rises at Taw Head, a spring on the central northern flanks of The Dartmoor National Park. It reaches the Bristol Channel 45 miles away on the north coast of Devon at a joint estuary mouth which it shares with the River Torridge.
