As a local, community focused farm, we want to introduce our farm visitors to other great places and people to visit in our surrounding area. Our neighbors are just as much a part of our farm as anyone who works for us. These friends and businesses share the same ideals of providing natural, healthy products while preserving the environment. This list will continue to grow as we do, so keep checking in to find other great places to see and things to do in our area.
The Sweezy House is a fine dining restaurant located just minutes from our farm. Husband and wife owners Dallas & Denise Pierce are originally from this area, and after living in Hilton Head have returned to the village of Fallston and restored a family home built in 1923. They bring amazing culinary expertise and a passion to provide a unique dining experience blending Southern and Regional American cuisine to the area where Denise’s family originally lived. Their excellent food is a great way to take a break during a day trip through our countryside. On Fridays you will see our whole farm team enjoying lunch there. Don’t forget to stop by their excellent take-out bakery before you leave!
The Baker Buffalo Creek Vineyard adjoins our farm on the Fallston-Waco Road. The vineyard supplies eight different grape varietals including red muscadine, chardonnay, scuppernong, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, riesling, and traminette. of white and red wines. Ann & Charles Edwards have beautifully restored the old barns and dairy into relaxing tasting areas, making sure to keep to the historic feel of their North Carolina Century Farm. Tastings are available during business hours, and Baker Buffalo Creek is rapidly becoming a favorite spot for locals to wind down after a long day or pick up a bottle of wine for relaxing at home. We had our first grassfed beef tasting paired with their wines for 120 of our neighbors at their vineyard last June – it was a great success. Try their Cabernet Sauvignon with some of our grassfed steaks!
Our name is inspired by a river and its surrounding moorlands in Devon, England. The River Taw rises at Taw Head, a spring on the central northern flanks of The Dartmoor National Park. It reaches the Bristol Channel 45 miles away on the north coast of Devon at a joint estuary mouth which it shares with the River Torridge.
