Our Horses

River Taw Farm is home to seven Thoroughbred mares rescued off the track; Tuxedo Bay (”Tux”), Gina the Witch (“Gina”), Megyn’s Mom (“Grace”), Dancer’s Bug (“Dancer”), M Letter Perfect (“Emma”), Superconi  (“Scarlett”), and “Rosie”.  We have 3 other registered horses being used to help transition the Thoroughbreds into riding horses.  We have one warmblood Hanoverian mare, Dona Selene (“Selene”), one quarter horse mare, Wahoo’s Kitty (“Skeeter”), and one American Paint gelding, Doc’s Check Ready (“Corona”).

The thoroughbred horses have been saved from places where they were neglected or were only being held until they could be slaughtered.  Some of them have come to us through a wonderful halfway house called New Vocations.  They have found a new life at River Taw.  Our horse trainer, Jennifer, is bringing them all along with patience.  We start them back at the very beginning with ground work 101.      We are very proud of their progress to date and their appearance, and we are looking forward to starting  a breeding program in 2011.  We hope to cross the Thoroughbreds with an Irish Draught Stallion to produce a good all round Sport Horse.
